Kundalini Yoga with Gong
Kundalini yoga is also called the «yoga of awareness».
Kundalini means Consciousness. The purpose of this practice is to raise awareness, just like the other styles of yoga, but in the case of kundalini Yoga the effects are achieved much faster.
The practice of Kundalini Yoga is according to Yogi Bhajan teachings.
«In Kundalini Yoga the most important thing is the experience. It goes straight to the heart»
Yogi Bhajan
The practice of Kundalini Yoga seeks the awakenning and raising of Kundalini energy (the energy of consciousness) This energy remains asleep at the base of the spine, where our first chakra is located. This kundalini energy, when awakened, rises through the central energy channel located along the spine towards the chakras or higher energy centers to expand your consciousness, to connect you to your soul.
That connection to your soul will allow you to be aware of your fears, your insecurities, it allows your mind and your emotions to understand things from neutrality, and ultimately to live a happier life from acceptance and inner peace.
«Kundalini Yoga gives you the inner strength to face the outside world. That’s why you need it every day, to be able to face the difficult times, because otherwise they get worse. Without your inner strength, you can’t face your life. You need perpetual resistance. And that’s what Kundalini Yoga is all about»
Yogi Bhajan
Yogi Bhajan, the master who brought Kundalini Yoga to the West, spoke of the gong as a powerful tool for healing, transformation, and the expansion of consciousness. He used the gong as an essential part of his Kundalini Yoga classes and taught that its sound has a profound effect on both the physical and subtle levels.
What Is the Gong and How Is It Used in the Practice?
The gong is an ancient instrument that produces deep, enveloping vibrations. In our Kundalini Yoga workshops and classes, we use the gong during final relaxation and in specific meditations, kriyas, or pranayamas. Its sound acts like a wave of vibration that harmonizes the nervous system, releases tension, and facilitates deep meditative states.
Benefits of Integrating the Gong into Kundalini Yoga
Greater mental clarity and inner connection
Stimulation of the immune system
Improved sleep and reduced stress
Greater mental clarity and inner connection
What Is a Kundalini Yoga Class with Gong Like?
Each class begins with the Adi Mantra, followed by a warm-up. We then practice a Kriya (a dynamic sequence of exercises combining physical postures and breathwork). After the kriya, we move into a deep relaxation accompanied by the sound of the gong, and we close the session with a meditation and the Long Time Sun song.
Each Kriya and each meditation have a very specific purpose and effect (e.g. kriya for the kidneys, kriya to strengthen the aura, kriya for intuition, etc.) however all kriyas work to strengthen the nervous system, balance the glandular system, purify the body and calm the mind.
«The Gong is the sound of the universe. When it vibrates, the entire universe vibrates with it.» Yogi Bajan
